Getting all wrapped up inside a fancy dress is probably at the top of most little girl’s favorite experiences. Each time they slip into a white communion dress or their flower girl’s dress, they are transported into the world of a little princess. But what to do with these items when the big day is over? If your child’s first communion dress is still hanging as a dust collector in her closet, you have missed a great opportunity to accent or decorate her bedroom with some of her most cherished memories. The sateen of a first communion dress can be used to make matching pillow shams for her bed, and the lace from a christening dress can be used as edging for a lampshade or be sewn into ties to be used to hold back curtains. Has your daughter been in more than one wedding, owning more than one flower girl dress? Create a memory quilt of her experiences to remind her, every time she goes to bed, how much of a princess she is to you. There is no reason to use a flower girl dress or a christening suit only once. Such quality fabrics were created to be used again and again, and they can withstand childlike play and usage for far longer than lower quality designs mass produced for most mega stores. Don’t waste your little one’s most beautiful clothing on just one day.
